Due criminali hanno avuto l'incarico di uccidere Mike Max, un produttore che ha basato la sua carriera su pellicole d'azione particolarmente violente. I killer riescono a rapirlo, ma il giorno dopo i loro corpi decapitati vengono trovati in quella terra di nessuno, come viene chiamato lo svincolo dell'autostrada. La polizia arriva alla conclusione che qualcuno ha liberato Max e ha tagliato la testa ai due malviventi. Ray Berling, ex scienziato della Nasa, invece ha visto qualcosa, per caso, sul suo schermo di sorveglianza del laboratorio super segreto che ha installato per conto del governo nel Griffith Park Observatory.
