Il cofanetto composto da quattro CD, composto da esibizioni dal vivo di formazioni di band stellari di Miles nel 1955, 1958, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1971, 1973 e 1975, a Newport, Rhode Island, New York City, Berlino e Svizzera.

La più recente voce della serie acclamata dalla critica Miles Davis Bootleg Series di Columbia / Legacy Recordings, NEWPORT 1955-1975, arriva a 296 minuti, di cui quasi quattro ore inedite. Dall'esordio di debutto di Miles alla NJF nel 1955 (una jam session organizzata in modo affrettato con Thelonious Monk e Gerry Mulligan, che portò immediatamente alla firma del trombettista Columbia), alla sua esibizione pubblica finale degli anni '70 nel 1975 (al Lincoln Center durante NJF-NY, il singolare "Mtume" chiamato per la favorita percussionista di Miles di quel decennio), il cofanetto traccia l'ascesa della musica di Miles come ne plus ultra del jazz.
