Il marchese Chesnay sceglie di lasciare l'amante per non perdere la moglie che, a sua volta, ha due spasimanti, un aviatore e un amico di questi. Intanto anche i relativi domestici intrecciano storie sentimentali. Ma le regole del gioco del 'bel mondo' basate sull'ipocrisia vengono infrante dal guardiacaccia che uccide l'aviatore credendolo in compagnia di sua moglie. Il marchese riuscirà comunque a rassicurare tutti in mondo che il gioco possa ricominciare come prima.
